What is PCD?

So what is PCD?
PCD or Pitch Circle Diameter is the diameter of an imaginary circle that passes through the centre of all the wheel bolts (stud holes).
For example:
A wheel marked as 5x120 means:
- 5 bolt holes
- A PCD of 120mm
How to Measure PCD on Your 4x4, Pickup or Van
Depending on the number of bolt holes, the method slightly differs. Here's how to do it:
For 4-Stud or 6-Stud Wheels (Even Number)

- Measure from the centre of one bolt hole to the centre of the one directly opposite.
- That’s your PCD.
For 5-Stud Wheels (Odd Number)

- Measure from the centre of one bolt to the outer edge of the bolt hole furthest away (not centre to centre).
- Use a PCD calculator or conversion chart to get an accurate diameter.
Top Tip: If you're unsure, take the wheel off and measure with a ruler or vernier caliper for better accuracy.
Why PCD Matters in Off-Road and Modified Builds
If you’re plus-sizing wheels, switching to steel wheels for durability, or upgrading to alloys for styling and performance, the correct PCD ensures:
- Wheel fitment compatibility
- Safety under off-road conditions
- Avoidance of vibration or bolt failure
Final Thoughts
Whether you're tackling muddy trails, lifting your 4x4, or building a full camper or swamper, correctly measuring your PCD is a small but crucial step in your wheel upgrade. Pairing your measurement with the right steel or alloy wheel—like our GOJOS range—gives you peace of mind and performance, both on and off the road.
